- BANG: Reporter Josh Richman wins in the Bay Area News Group for his reporting on gun control laws in California.
- Colorado/Utah: Robert Gehrke and Tom Harvey of the Salt Lake Tribune won in the Colorado/Utah cluster for their coverage of a scandal surrounding Utah Attorney General John Swallow.
- LANG: Team coverage of the release of more than 4,000 pages of documents relating to sexual abuse in the Los Angeles Archdiocese wins in the Los Angeles News Group.
- Midwest: Jason Henry of the Morning Journal in Lorain, Ohio, wins in the Midwest cluster for a series on heroin addiction.
- Northern California: The Santa Cruz Sentinel wins in the Northern California cluster for its coverage of the Mavericks International surfing contest.
- Northeast: The Daily Freeman in Kingston, N.Y., wins the Northeast cluster for a multimedia travel feature on the Mohonk Mountain House.
- PA/NJ/WV: Reporter Danielle Lynch and Editor Phil Heron won in the Pennsylvania/New Jersey/West Virginia cluster for their reporting and commentary on the gun debate in the Philadelphia area.
- Texas/New Mexico: In another winner focused on gun violence, Taryn Walker of the Carlsbad Current-Argus wins in the Texas/New Mexico cluster for her interview with a 6-year-old victim of a drive-by shooting.
