On our next Inside Thunderdome live chat, we will be joined by C.W. Anderson, a professor in the Department of Media Culture at the College of Staten Island (CUNY).

You might know Anderson as part of the academic triumvirate that produced Post Industrial Journalism: Adapting to the Present, a far-reaching look at where the news industry is headed — and what forces are pushing it in that direction. If you haven’t read the report already, Nieman Lab’s Josh Benton put together a great insta-recap. Anderson and his co-authors Emily Bell and Clay Shirky (“the Justice League of New York journalism,” as Benton called them) also did a brief cross-country tour for the report — the video of their Tow Center appearance is a great primer.

We’ll be chatting with Anderson about his recently released book, Rebuilding the News, which he calls a “history of the present.” Based on ethnographic research conducted in Philadelphia newsrooms while working on a doctoral dissertation, the book focuses on the “slow-motion collapse” of Philly’s local newspapers and how numerous actors attempted to reform and rebuild the ecosystem in which they had been embedded.

If you’d like more background on the book, head on over to Nieman Lab — they have a column Chris wrote about the book and an excerpt, as well as a great podcast interview about his findings.

Want to submit questions for Chris in advance? You can do so either by emailing us or hitting ‘Make a comment’ after following the link below.

Please come back at 2:00 pm tomorrow (2/13) for our live chat with C.W. Anderson.

Previous live chat guests have included Laura AmicoMark LuckieLiz HeronScott Klein, and Burt Herman.
